Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center (8,400 sq. ft.) will have nature and environmental exhibits that include –
A 5,000 to 10,000 gallon aquarium with local fish
Live reptiles and amphibians
Migratory birds
Freshwater mussels
Local river history area
Commercial shipping and industrial uses of river display
Wildlife mounts
* Environmental education classroom * Banquet facility* Blue Heron Eco-Cruises launch * Meeting space* Clinton County tourism information center * Camp store and café
Location is result of Rock Creek’s assets: sloughs, backwaters, species diversity and feeding grounds, accessibility for water craft, and uniqueness of environment for meetings, reunion, and receptions. Additional advantage of this location: Clinton County Conservation Board already leases and manages the park.
Signage to park, to eco tourism center, will be extensively revamped for higher visibility.
With growth and appeal of eco tourism, facility will help attract visitors to Clinton area and thus enhance economic growth.
Capital campaign for $1.5 million underway to solicit gifts and pledges from local industries, businesses, and individuals.
Large visible recognition for very significant investors is planned via naming opportunities in eco tourism center.
Fundraising for this community asset is being done by many volunteers and follows almost four years of work. Honorary Chairpersons are Jim and Mary Woll. Campaign Leadership Team is headed by Norlan Hinke.
